I moved house last week. Kinda funny story as I moved in with my ex. But on a purely platonic and room mate level. So it's like coming full circle in a sliding doors way. Really odd. Very simple to digest and get on with living in this really cool suburb of Melbourne. So I'm chatting away about St Kilda East this and St Kilda Eas that and my new room mate tells me that it's not St Kilda East. "Drop the east. I've told you already" (that's the ex relationship familiarity approach) "that it's St Kilda." I'm like WTF? But wait that's cool! I mean who want's to say they live east of somthing that is cool right? I't would be like saying, I live in Berlin East. Or New York East. I mean come on! So I'm extactic! St Kilda. A nice rounded off burb title! And it's a pretty famous one too.
Helvetica is THE most widely used sans-serif typeface in the world. It was developed in 1957 by Swiss typeface designers Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffmann. Originally named Die Neue Haas Grotesk, the name Helvetica (modified Latin for Switzerland) was introduced to make it more marketable to the US.
So what did I do on a Friday night? I sat at home watching a documentary about a typeface. Is that THE most geeky thing ever? To be honest it's a feature length documentary that I would recommend to anyone interested in visual communication and a must see for any designer.
Helvitcia, explores the history of this world famous typeface, while celebrating it's diversity and examining it's saturation in the modern and post modern design worlds. Some great names in this industry voice their experiences and opinions about the loved and sometimes, yes, hated typeface.
If ever there was a remake just begging for it, it is John Carpenter's cult classic Sci Fi movie, THEY LIVE. A remake would not only breathe new life into the "they're here among us" conspiracies, while also paving the way for the modern WWE wrestlers' acting career. It could be fun.
The story in 25 words or less. Ok 30 even.
A buffed drifter discovers a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers that allow him to see aliens who have taken over the Earth by using hidden messages in advertising and TV.

"You? You look like your face fell in the cheese dip back in 1957."
"That's like pouring perfume on a pig."
