What do you have in your "studio"?

Posted By: Chris_ on: 3/1/09 4:54 AM

I mainly use my Casio Lk43 that I bought when I started playing piano in the end of the 90's, together with my PC where I run a copy of Reason 4.

I'm thinking about buying a new synth with maybe 2octaves instead of 5.
And also a mixerboard 14:7 or something like that.

Someone got any recommendations on what I should buy?

What do you use?

My studio is small.I have my PC with M-Audio fast track for my hardware. For software- MAGIX studio and Sony Acid. I have a basic midi Casio keyboard, drum pad, digital turntables,a violin, and 2 guitars (electic and acoustic). Not planning on buying anything else soon.I have so many talents,so its hard to commit to just one.

geez guys, I'm such a newbie. Haha, I wish I would have spent more money on my music making, but hopefully, there will be a day when I commit to music instead of film :P

I too am noob. I like to tinker about in Live, Fruity Loops and ACID, but I have a bad habit of not finishing songs. :-/

My PC with Ableton Live as a master software.
* Many many many VST plugins - reaktor for carbon 2 , korgms20, minimoog, arp2600 - i gave up trying to teach myself how to know them perfectly.
* Native Instruments Audio Kontrol for recording concrete sounds here and there (  la einsturzende neubauten)
* Korg Microkontrol - love love love it but the tweakers lost all reactivity after a few years

I'm more of a mix engineer, but I have Pro Tools LE, an MBox 2 and a couple BX5a monitors. I'm thinking about going out and getting a cheap midi controller so I can get more used it to it.

I have more crap than ever imaginable in my studio and with all the gear I've bought over the years I have this to say. The best thing to figure out is what type of gear you like to use. Some are comfortable with everything being soft-synth / software based and can turn out great stuff by exclusively using their computer. For myself, I actually like hardware that is more tactile and (sometimes) less complicated. Currently, I use a MAC desktop with acid / live / pro tools HD to mix.

But I love playing on an 88 key weighted controller instead of poking around on some hunk of plastic with shitty feeling keys.

My favorite gear is the modified things I find on e-bay or at sales around LA. Those for me get the best foundations for new sound layers.

A few songs are on my page if anyone wants to check them out. I like remixing too if the original track is good.

it is my humble opinion that a good musician can turn out good music with whatever he or she has

i use cheap "plastic crap"
because its cheap

altho i do admit a hardware synthesizer has a feel hard to emulate with any soft-synth, when either is given to someone with the talent and know-how, both can be used with great success.

as far as weighted keys go?
i was raised a pianist but don't necessarily have a preference, so long as it's touch sensitive and has after-touch

Anyone good at remixing?

Posted By: MatthewFrost on: 6/19/08 11:38 PM

So, I'm considering having one or two of my tracks remixed for use at clubs, etc.. Just wanted to see if anyone out there is good with making club mixes and if anyone wants to tackle my stuff? I've got eight tracks up on my DList page right now - let me know what you think. Thanks!

My new track

Posted By: raverpunk1 on: 5/25/08 2:45 AM

The 1st of many new tracks I have been working on called On The Journey, is up on my player on myspace.com/groovechildz and on my dlist profile. This is the short "net" version and it's more towards the dub-step side.
