i like to see a tattoo as a mark that represents where you are or where you where at in your life when you got it. i love when a tattoo has spiritual and emotional meaning.
my first was the fool from the tarot cards. it represents the beginning and the culmination of the mystical quest. the leap of faith. the young prince leaving his life of material comfort at the castle to embrace one of optimism and spiritual faith. he has become more humble and less prejudice and is allowing spirit to guide him. he takes only with him the essentials of life in his nap sac and journeys into the abyss without the fear of falling off the cliff. i got it before i left to new york to start my new life.
my second tatt is the mandrake. a mystical root with a human-like figure depicted in old world european folklore, witchcraft, wicca, paganism, and other old and celtic religions. to me it represents growth. im in a place in my life where i am learning many things about my talent and who i am as a person. it is a creative growth. a spiritual growth. i got it on my foot because i think feet are sacred. it is what grounds you and brings your spirit closer to the earth. at this point in my life i am looking for stability and grounding.
of course tattoos shouldn't always be so serious! thats why im planing on getting an invisible zipper on my back because im a designer and it is a symbol of fashion. =)

ello all. just going to toss my 2 cents out there for those looking to get inked.
first my ink was of my own drawing, so my process was just to find an artist that i clicked with. i knew free hand work would be involved in mine so i had to really trust the one that is sticking me. i met artists for a good year before i picked mine. while i was in the shopping around process i was tightening up the artwork. which leads to the next part.
try not to take something off a flash or out of a book, use them for ideas. your getting this thing in you for good. make sure it is something that you want forever...
figure out what you want and make it yours. a dragon for example. research all kinds of dragons and build your own. a good artist if brought 5-6 different dragons can take parts of all them and draw up a custom one that fits you. might be extra charge, but in the end it is yours.
when you find the piece/concept that you know is yours, stare at it or think about it every day for a while to make sure. nothing worse than someone outgrowing ink that is in them... i've seen it enough times.
take it easy all. ~A
