Fashion is much more than brand names, thin models, cheesy lights, and bad techno music. Fashion is human response to the world around us. We live our lives in and out of clothing. No other form of design is so intimate with our bodies. We shape the clothes and the clothes shape us. In all cultures since the first animal skins were rapped around the body, ornamentation of the body has existed.
This is a group to discuss , network, and inform each other. Not so much a place for talking about Abercrombie and Fitch or the gap, but to discuss the future of fashion, the current, and the people who impact(ed) it.
Dior stole the new look from James.
Westwood created punk.
Mugler did it all before McQueen
The Antwerp Six changed it forever.
Fashion is more powerful than architecture.
Fashion is more expressive than words.
Fashion is more than fibers.
Fashion is freedom.

All right, i know its cheesy but it starts a dialog. Who are some of your favorite living and non-living designers and why?
I'm a huge fan of the late Charles James for his sculptural and architectural shapes and currently enjoy the work of Veronique Branquinho (for the dramatic mystery), Dries van Noten (for his use of prints and his modern structures), and Vivienne Westwood(for rethinking shape, drape, and fighting the body).

COCO CHANEL is a legacy -Marilyn Monroe was the icon for Chanel-, SALVATORE FERRAGAMO and MILANO BLAHNIK are the gods of High Fashion Shoes, GIORGIO ARMANI (Emporio Armani) is truely the empire of the Fashion Industry, KARL LAGERFELD (for Chanel), ALEXANDER McQUEEN, MARC JACOBS, HUBERT de GIVENCHY, CHRISTIAN DIOR, IVES ST. LAURENT, VALENTINO, DOMINICO DOLCE & STEFANO GABBANA, GUCCI, PRADA, GIANNI VERSACE, OSCAR de LA RENTA, VERA WANG, ZAC POSEN, NICOLAS GHESQUIERE (for Cristobal Balenciaga), and TOM FORD are definitely the understated artist/designers of our lives.

through there are some great names listed.......I'm not sure those you mentioned are necessarily "definitely the understated artist/designers of our lives. " Most of those names are the biggest ones in fashion. All are sitting on top of wads of cash designing for huge names. Granted many of them are very talented.......some I'm not so sure of. I love Ghesquiere, but not for Balenciaga. I don't think he really does the house of Balenciaga justice. Sandra Backlund, with her knitwear, does amazing sculptural work that reminds me a lot of the late Balenciaga's forms....It is all subjective.... I'm into a lot of conceptual stuff though. Designers should be designers, leave the styling for stylists(a completely different but extremely vital talent)...if you know what I mean.

True, true... There are more designers out there that truly DO deserve the acknowledgement but design and style has to be functual and marketable. A designer can be a stylist but a stylist cannot be a designer. I think it's easier from that aspect.

I'm particularly fond of...
- Viviene Westwood's collection with the Sex Pistols <3
- Alexander McQueen's sense of abstraction and dresses <3
- Patricia Field's collaboration with Namie Amuro on her release of 60s70s80s <3

LANVIN is got to be my best designer. either it is womenwear or menswear, they are all perfect. is like when a men or women wear an art piece. when i watch the show, they are so powerful and really taken away.

Does anyone want to be my stylist? I may need a "What Not To Wear" style intervention, in which you tell me that I can never wear plaid again.
I am merely an "admirer" in this group.
