On-Campus Efforts

Posted By: drewdude88 on: 11/11/09 7:41 PM

So on my college campus, I'm a member of the sustainability councils that were created this year to help promote an atmosphere of sustainability among the student body through education, programs etc. The council on my quad has come up with some good ideas, but I wondered if anyone here had any ideas they might like to share. Something campus appropriate/practical. Leave it here or shoot me a message please.

And no, I won't credit myself with said idea. :-)

We have a community garden, which might be a cool idea! the premise is that whoever does work on the garden, can reap the harvest! Can we say beets, and Swiss chard, Squash and tomatoes.... i could go on forever with a list of what we grow... i dont pay for produce, usually!
Annnd our campus food service gives us their compost, for our compost bins! [at least sometimes]

Yeah, our campus is looking into composting, as well as the community garden idea.

One sort of cool thing that we do here is that once a year, there's a big clean-up event where people go around campus and pick up all the trash they can find. Then they bring it all back to this central location on campus, where they all work together to make it into an art piece called "Trashmonster." It's a really cool and fun thing to do. (Of course, then they dispose of the trash.)

reduce your carbon footprint

Reduce your carbon footprint by hanging your clothes outside in the sun. Everyone's doing it. Australians do it in the winter as well, where their lows are 50s F.

escalators

escalators waste a HUGE amount of energy, when available, use the stairs for the environment and your health!!!

Excuse me. I can't be bothered to walk up stairs. What a waste of time that would be.

XD

How bout those ridiculous moving sections of floor in airports.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you couldn't be bothered to walk."

*throws arms in air*
