If you guys complain about public transportation in the US.. you have no idea how awful is to use it in Mexico...any how.. I do it as much as I can my truck is a gas guzzler but I must use 1hour 1/2 in advance to use a bus or a metro to get home/work, but its worthed, I feel real good with myself when I finally get there and think about the help Im giving to the planet ... besides it gives me time to think .. and figure things out...all though Iphone helps ...

I thought you guys might like this.

Only after the last tree has been cut down;
Only after the last fish has been caught;
Only after the last river has been poisoned;
Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.

I forgot to Navy Shower

Normally I turn off the water while I'm lathering up. I'm saving maybe max 3 gallons of water, but it's oddly erotic and it takes very little effort.
Anyway, I didn't do that this morning, but tomorrow, oh tomorrow.

My part of the effort...

I haven't driven my car for two and a half months, and it makes my life generally unbearable. I ride the bus to campus every day, and I walk everywhere else. I don't mind the bus, but I'm sick of this problem and the government sucks

     Going without the convenience of a car is tough, and I applaud you for it! Current prices of fuel have inspired all of us to take a second look at our consumption. Some are driving less, others not at all. This and the fierce urgency to reduce emissions have made it necessary for the next President, whomever he may be, to initiate a renaissance of public transit, fuel efficiency standards, and incentives for the purchase of a hybrid vehicle.

          Taking into consideration the non-environmentally friendly leanings of the two current presidential candidates, and the general lethargic response to the potentially catastrophic issue of fossil fuel dependence, the bulk of responsibility lies with our ability to create a grassroots movement calling for legislation built on sustainable principles. Texas, and the D/FW area is making admirable progress, in relation to its past stagnation, but that progress is not enough. It is up to all of us to do our part, and those politically inclined to sit on the doorsteps of city halls, and county commissioner's offices around the county; swamp the mailrooms and boadrooms of automakers with letters demanding greater fuel efficiency (Ford is currently selling an automobile in Europe which gets 63mpg, but does not want to bring the vehicle to the U.S. market).

Everyone must do their part, whether it be shopping more sustainably (avoiding excessive plastic packaging, and purchasing frequently used items in bulk, and using a dedicated shopping bag, or bags, rather than plastic/paper grocery bags); composting (to reduce the health risks of landfills filled with organic material that is of better benefit to gardens and farmland); exchanging incandescent bulbs for more energy efficient ones; driving less, taking public transportation, or-- for those in the market for a new vehicle-- choosing the model having the best gas mileage; using locally available materials in home repairs/renovations; and buying locally-grown produce from your farmer's markets, to reduce food distribution fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

     In atlanta, it is generally easy to take public transit. I don't know why more people haven't adopted it is as their daily transportation.

Blackout Sabbath Tomorrow!

Posted By: PedroParamo on: 6/20/08 9:56 PM

Steps to take.

1. log onto the Blackout Sabbath site (http://www.blackoutsabbath.org/) and check out the proposal and links.

2(.if possible) donate a fridge magnet which will be exhibited on the site and will then be given away at the awareness concert. These can be mailed to my management or given to me at one of my shows. In turn , they will be passed out to members of the audience at the awareness concert to promote the event.

3. Go to the unamplified candle lit concert on March 19th featuring me and my family and many others such as Joan Wasser, Jenni Muldaur, & special guest! at the Angel Orensanz Hall.

4. Make plans for what you will do on the day of Blackout Sabbath (June 21st), i.e. what you will cook ahead of time, who you will spend it with, etc.

5. On June 21st starting at 12 noon, turn off the lights, unplug your fridge, walk or bike everywhere, do as much as you can to "live off the grid" for the day. But still, even if you just turn off one light, that will be an effort and a contribution.

6. As darkness descends: light your candle, take out your pencil and pad and write down your list of things that you will do in the next year to contribute to the earth's well-being.

7. Put the list on your fridge with a magnet and keep it there for a year.

8. At midnight, resume your life and try and keep your promises.

9. This exercise will be repeated the next year, at which point you can review your list and make a NEW one!
