post some of your memorable shows

ORCHID
i guess these guys were my initiation into emo violence, at george washington university's marvin center in '99 or so. a bunch of unassuming chill skinny white guys took the stage and proceeded to blow the space away. for the first couple of minutes everyone in the crowd just stood there awestruck, looking around at each other wondering what in the hell is going on... and then it clicked. we caught up and an amazing time was had.

BOYSETSFIRE
the original bass player darrell's final show at the old infamous venue nation in washington, dc (rip), around 2002. everyone was just falling over each other, rushing the stage, yeah yeah crying, and i think that was about when i stopped following them. i used to love these guys no matter how cheesy they were. my friend was really into h20, i was into bsf and we'd make fun of each other, and now we look back and laugh it. the "this crying, this screaming, my voice is being born" ep was crucial! I MEAN IT WAS SHAPED LIKE A MATCHBOOK THAT SHIT WAS GENIUS.

MAJORITY RULE
these guys are the reason i got into hardcore - out of boredom i was helping a friend put out some of their 7"s for his label at the time. back then they were a rappy punk pop band, good and all but once they dropped the original singer and turned full on metalcore things got wicked, fast, they blew up internationally. there was some show in church basement near 15th + Columbia Rd. in dc with them and city of caterpillar, a side project the drummer pat was in. everyone showed up for this, people were swinging off of exposed plumbing.

CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE
at the warehouse next door (rip), 2004?
A MURMUR FROM THE RUINS ECHO SOFTLY AS THE ROOTS UNDO, AND THE BRANCH BECOMES
my immovable wall was pushed to its limits.
the old drummer was hot.

SAETIA
at the sevenfest at baltimore's johns' hopkins university in '99. it was the first time i caught them, my friend chris kept hyping this band who's members he was roommates with at nyu. chris gets easily excited over things so i took his words with a grain of salt. but it was fucking saetia, and i was blown. the instruments, billy's vocals, YES. ha, atom and his package also played that fest.

...did not realize how long this was. but these are some of the things i reflect on the good old days in the dmv.

well, can't leave out at the drive-in. opening for the get up kids at st. andrew's church at umcp in 2002? cedric et. al went nuts. a bunch of kids pressed for the guk were trying to hold spots at the front of the the stage while at the drive-in played, which just wasn't happening. to this day i can't really get into the mars volta after having seen what atdi was like.

OneWordSolution - They're a local band, friends of mine, but godDAMN do they have good shows! Every time you see them live the place is packed without fail, and the second they jump into a song the whole room becomes a circle pit. I shit you not, there is not a safe place in the house. Fuckin' love it.

Limp Wrist - Queercore hardcore band. I saw them play live in Long Beach, CA a few months back and it still stands as one of the best shows I'd ever been too. Everybody was so stoked to see them, so much so that when they went on everyone immediately rushed the stage. I'm talking two-hundred or so kids in a fairly small place just rushing to the front. The pit was less a circle, and more a human ocean. I'm a big guy, and there were times my feet didn't even touch the ground. Epic.

Defiance, Ohio with Vena Cava, This Bike Is A Pipebomb and some other bands - Coolest fuckin' club I'd ever been to first of all. Just some anarcho dive in a warehouse district. Sound system was utterly insane, speakers stacked to the ceiling. And though the place was tiny, the room was hell on a soundwave. Every band tore shit up, and everybody was moving. It was impossible to do otherwise, and all for the better.

Well, I don't think you can really call them 'reunion shows' seeing as how the only times they ever play are few and far between seeing as how they never really lived near each other. But yeah, it was the last US show they played before starting their Australia tour last year.

Im not going to lie i really got into punk and hardcore through AFI. At that time i didnt know anything else but then i moved on backwards and forwards and i must admit that SAETIA, Limp Wrist, Circle Takes the Square, are the shit.

My first show was a punk show with the bands, The Virus, The Casualties, and The Unseen. It was fun nonetheless the pit the energy oh man. And then after that i have seen others. But i wish I would have seen those three up there and Bad brains of course.

Some bostonian hardcore would have been the shit.

boston's been known to throw down -- pogo punk outfit the showcase showdown was always a good time.

the bad brains house was a couple of blocks up from where i live in dc now - i can't imagine how the neighborhood must have been then, now it's all bad trance mixes blasting from convertibles and tiny gay dogs

I saw Propagandhi a few months back and they were incredible. Last night though (Sunday may 11th) I saw D.O.A.!!! It was absolutely amazing. A friend and I linked arms and dove into the circle pit for the entire set. I high-fived with Randy Rampage (bassist), and Joey Shithead almost hit me in the face with his guitar (awesome!). I'm probably seeing Strike Anywhere in June, so that should be fun, as well as seeing some local ska shows.

I recently saw a queercore show that was hosted by Queer Control records. I caught the last show of their west coast tour, and it was fucking amazing.
My three favorite bands of the evening were 8 Inch Betsy, Tough Tough Skin, and Fruit Punch. I'd be hard pressed to say which of those I liked the best though, I loved them all. It was great, everyone was having a good time, and I found it really encouraging.

Other than that, Ozzfest has never let me down, including Disturbed, Manson, and System of a Down

Mika Miko @ the eagle rock music festival -

eagle rock is a tiny little town on the outskirts of LA and Echo Park. The town is so tiny that they even have a fishmarket in their shopping mall. It also just so happens to be my old home town... anyways so the festival included bands like Abe Vigoda, Pizza, Le Face and of course native to the city, Mika Miko.
the whole night was awesome. Workshops, no entrance fee's , just music and fun. Since the event was outside on the main street of the city we had no protection from the rain, which was totally fine, because thrashing in the rain is the ultimate

SO mika miko were setting up and i had noticed a way to get over the gate that had blocked the crowed from the stage. I also took a few show attendee's with me that way i wasnt the only one who was going to do it. Mika miko come on and start playing and the whole place began in an uproar ! The People who put on the show started freaking out as us concert goo'ers started raging like a swarm of bee's beeing chased out of their hive from a bear ! I pretty much just remember everyone having the time of their lives and thats about it. Here is a clip from the show. The first song Totion is one of my favorites. Super Thrashy but almost post-punk thrashy. annyways, I'm front row by Jenne( the singer without the telephone) You can kinda see my arms flailing around.

enjoy

oh btw
at the end of the video you can see the ladys who put the show on freak out.

I have a limited amount of tapes, trying to let it grow. Mostly old Black metal, Grind, some dbeat and and a bunch of power violence for some reason. Alot of demos from texas grind bands that might be worth something some day.
