The Livestrong wristband is a yellow silicone wristband launched in May of 2004 as a fund-raising item for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, founded by cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong. The wristband itself was developed by Nike.
The band is part of the "Wear Yellow Live Strong" educational program. The program is intended to raise money for cancer research, raise cancer awareness, and encourage people to live life to the fullest. The band sells individually, as well as in packs of 10, 100, and 1,200 as part of an effort to raise $5 million for the Lance Armstrong Foundation in cooperation with Nike who manufactures the "live strong" bands in Austin, Texas the home of Lance Armstrong and other world wide manufacturing plants and sells the wristbands through their Nike outlets worldwide. This target was achieved within 6 months, and there have now been over 70 million Livestrong bands sold to date. Individual bands sell for $1 each.

I actually had cancer. So Livestrong does mean a lot more to me than just a fashion statement. Surviving cancer was one of the strongest things I have ever done...and I'm only 18 : ) | |

I have been cancer free for 14 days now!
it really does suck.. I broke my wristband but I wear it in my heart always...along with the StandUp2Cancer organization |

I am a health buff. I always wear my livestrong band everyday, every minute, every second,in short, I do not take it off. It reminds me to strive very hard to stay fit and healthy, physically and mentally. We only got one body and we should, with all our human power, take care of it. I wear it to show support for Armstrong's foundation - The Cancer Reasearch, at the same time, I also wear it to show my support to anybody and everybody out there who are health buffs. We should all "Livestrong!" | |
