Real. Honest. Raw or deftly prepared... but here, now and as gorgeous in its beauty or pain as it can be... Otherness is bliss.
I am intrigued by the "other" artists, spirit, body, boy, person that takes a step outside of the image, the pretense, and into the fantastic!
People who express as they are, who they, knowing that they can act and will sometimes (rather than believing the act) are just gorgeous.
I am interested in inspiration, in photographing and then marrying, divorcing, meshing and molding images in digital, chalk or other mediums.
I like when relationships are like that as well... Boundaries must be crossed.

- bakingsheet: Crispy, Roasted Brussels Sprouts (11/20/09) [View | Hide]

We tried this recipe for Roasted Brussels Sprouts on Wednesday. Delicious! Easy to make, kind of like fries without the frying. It’s a keeper. I dashed a little paprika in the preparation. bakingsheet: Crispy, Roasted Brussels Sprouts. Mixed in olive oil, a bit of salt, pepper, and paprika. I paired it with a spicy cucumber salad and salmon. Give it a shot, you’re sure to like. Scott~ Posted in Food & Recipes, recipes, vegetarian Tagged: baking, Brusssels Sprouts

- Mandalas :: City Lights :: Kannon (11/19/09) [View | Hide]
Hi there. I’m kicking back with some R. Carlos Nakkai and looking for inspiration in color and shape for “The Happy Ones.” The initial images are pumping out their little bits of light. Seeing how this is all an exploration I’m open to where my intuition leads me… Here are a few of the shapes, images, colors and ideas I’ve been browsing today. It’s a pretty fluffy post but *shrugs* Im’ feeling pretty visual today and I’m adding images to my mental pallet for later. Photo of a Chenrezig Sand Mandala created and exhibited at the House of Commons on the occasion of the visit of the Dalai Lama on 21 May 2008. Photograph taken by the uploader. @ Wikipedia) Tibetan Sand Mandala’s have always drawn me in. Most things Tibetan do. I also found a little site on my search that shows the extensive construction of the Sand Mandala here at Ackland Online. Created and destroyed, they do not remain. The material life is transitory. Jumping tracks… Have you Googled the term “Blurred City Lights“? I felt like I was seeing this image or video in my head of a girl, dark short hair, riding in a car at night. The lights behind her are blurring out . Was that… Lost in Translation? I don’t know but the film comes to mind. Great stuff.

I really love this last image from a blog here on wordpress. Kannon / Quan Yin keeps popping up for me too.

- Contemplating The Hanged Man: Up-side-down, round and round. (11/17/09) [View | Hide]
Hi. Hey there. Hello. Try as I might I couldn’t get a moment to sit down and write yesterday. The day was pretty busy, if you caught my twittering, you know I was at city hall listening in on some decision-making about a project in downtown. Big fun, I KNOW! I know that I needed the time to meditate on the Tarot Journey, but I’ve been in more of an observation versus doing mode so meditation really hasn’t helped much. That sort of be still, regulate and deepen breath, count down through-alpha-into-beta-space, where I can play with my own mythic imagery has eluded me and you can tell by the contents of my journal. BLANK. Then I pulled Wodin… The Hanged Man. The sacrificial deity, or more commonly for me, “giving up the run-about for some necessary contemplation.”
Hmm go figure. (Talking to myself here). “Alright mind, so why are we so anti-meditative?” *brain storming* Hanged man. Sacrifice. Letting go and looking / listening. See the world from another perspective. Standing on my head. I am not upside down, the world is? The world is not upside down, I am? Back in 1993 or 4 I was meditating on the Hanged Man. I remember this clearly now. I think I had been stuck on him for several days, that and contemplating Tiphareth. Forgive my geek-talk but I know they are maybe not traditionally connected but the symbolism of the heart, the sun and the aura / glow around his head had me drawing lines in the sand. Walking along the street with friend Kat and Todd, it struck me and I energetically flipped… That is I was simultaneously there, in my body but also up and over my head. Two of me, crowns touching, aware of both, not separate. Spirit and flesh. *flash* A dream. I remember a dream back around that time. In it I am in a dark city. Bad things are happening all around me and I am running, hiding, running again. Pursued by men in uniforms (meow!) I arrive at an intersection, and an older gentleman over the side of the fence says to me, “How long are you going to do this?” I stare at him bewildered and then the feeling strikes me. “Two worlds” and I am only in one. There is this flash of sensation and light in my heart. The imagery of the dream, the world there flickers like a film reel that has caught and stuttered. There is this brightness and then I am no longer in that place, pursued. I am in the world of light. The hanged man. The light around his head. The world flips upside down. What does he see? How does it look with the ground where the sky had been and everything moving in the heavens instead of down below his feet. Speaking of that, the little bit of leather, worn and tied to his foot, suspending the hanged man to the tree which still grows, what is below him now that his foot faces the stars? Is that a path? Is he grounded in a spiritual sky and channeling the earth and all things in it? And if he is channeling, what is coming through? What does, or will it say? Will it be like the Runes, the Furthark, cast on stone, made of blood, eye missing; Raven laughing? Will it form letters, numbers or words? How has it become such a wonder to find myself in the place of the sacrificed? Am I grain? Wheat? What is reaped? Suddenly I feel pretty meditative. :) I’m going to set myself a task, to have none (things to do) for a few days and “hang out”. Meanwhile, my DJ is spinning “up side down”.

- Rescued Food a Recipe for Relief – CBS Evening News – CBS News (11/13/09) [View | Hide]
Just watched this little snippet on CBS Evening News. I thought it was interesting and noble. Makes me think about how much we produce, how much we consume and why there is so much waste??? From the article: “From oddly shaped veggies, to meat, or milk at its sell-by date – it’s sorted and shipped out to more than 150 Detroit-area pantries and soup kitchens. The numbers are staggering: more than 96 billion pounds of food go to waste every year in this country. That’s more than a quarter of all food available in this country.” Waste Not, Want NotThe non-profit organization Forgotten Harvest collects thousands of pounds of perfectly edible food discarded by businesses in order to feed those who face hunger. Seth Doane reports from Detroit. Rescued Food a Recipe for Relief – CBS Evening News – CBS News. - Article: Japan Health Care | Japan Obesity (11/13/09) [View | Hide]
Since I’m on the food kick today this article popped out to me. Friend-Diego just posted this to his Facebook profile. What are you thoughts? Fat in Japan? You’re breaking the law…TOKYO, Japan — In Japan, being thin isn’t just the price you pay for fashion or social acceptance. It’s the law. So before the fat police could throw her in pudgy purgatory, Miki Yabe, 39, a manager at a major transportation corporation, went on a crash diet last month. In the week before her company’s annual health check-up, Yabe ate 21 consecutive meals of vegetable soup and hit the gym for 30 minutes a day of running and swimming. “It’s scary,” said Yabe, who is 5 feet 3 inches and 133 pounds. “I gained 2 kilos [4.5 pounds] this year.” In Japan, already the slimmest industrialized nation, people are fighting fat to ward off dreaded metabolic syndrome and comply with a government-imposed waistline standard. Metabolic syndrome, known here simply as “metabo,” is a combination of health risks, including stomach flab, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, that can lead to cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Concerned about rising rates of both in a graying nation, Japanese lawmakers last year set a maximum waistline size for anyone age 40 and older: 85 centimeters (33.5 inches) for men and 90 centimeters (35.4 inches) for women. - Three wise Chef’s… (11/13/09) [View | Hide]
… Or apparently I love to watch Italian Lady’s cook. 1. Lidia’s Italy I adore Lidia. Home cooked, Italian food. Fresh made pasta’s and always looking delicious. I’ve tried out a few recipes on friends and family, many are dishes and flavor combinations that I had thought were uncommon but turned out to be traditional foods… And it’s for everybody. If you are a savvy vegetarian then you know how to substitute.
Site: http://www.lidiasitaly.com/welcome Lidia also has a blog, as well as a TV show with travel updates and recipes like… CAVATELLI WITH BREADCRUMBS, PANCETTA AND CAULIFLOWER
Cavatelli con Pancetta e Cavolfiore Makes 6 servings ………. What you’ll need:
- Salt
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
- Three ¼-inch slices pancetta (about 8 ounces), cut into 1 x ¼ x ¼-inch sticks (about 1 ½ cups)
- 1 pound dried cavatelli, cavatappi or shells
- 2 medium onions, diced ½ inch (about 2 cups)
- ½ head cauliflower, stalks removed, florets cut into ½-inch pieces (about 3 cups)
- Crushed red pepper
- 1 ½ cups hot chicken stock
- ¼ cup chopped fresh Italian parsley
- ¼ cup fine dry breadcrumbs, or as needed
………. What to do: Bring 6 quarts of salted water to a boil in an 8-quart pot over high heat. Heat 2 tablespoons of the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the pancetta and cook, stirring occasionally, until the pancetta has rendered some of it s fat and is lightly browned but still soft in the center, about 4 minutes. Don’t overcook the pancetta. Stir the cavatelli into the boiling water. Return to a boil, stirring frequently. Cook the pasta, semi-covered, stirring occasionally, until done, about 10 minutes. Stir the onion into the skillet and cook until barely wilted, about 2 minutes. Stir in the cauliflower and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cauliflower is wilted and begins to brown, about 4 minutes. Season lightly with salt and a little crushed red pepper. Pour the chicken stock into the skillet, bring to a boil and lower the heat so the sauce is at a lively simmer. Cook until the vegetables are tender and the liquid is reduced by about one-half, about 5 minutes. If the skillet is large enough to accommodate the sauce and pasta, fish the pasta out of the boiling water with a large wire skimmer and drop it directly into sauce in the skillet. If not, drain the pasta, return it to the pot and pour in the sauce. Bring the sauce and pasta to a boil, tossing and stirring to coat the pasta. Check the seasoning, adding salt if necessary. Stir the breadcrumbs, parsley and remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil into the pot. Cook, stirring and tossing the pasta until the sauce is lightly thickened. Serve at once. Get this recipe and more at Lidia’s Italy Blog: http://blog.lidiasitaly.com/2009/10/cavatelli-with-breadcrumbs-pancetta-and-cauliflower.php 2. Giada De Laurentiis I catch Giada occasionally on her food network show, as a guest chef on the Today Show, and sometimes on the street. About two months ago she was pre-viewing the Downtown LA Art Walk! Those big fantastic sunglasses and the overcoat couldn’t hide the fact that it was little Miss De Laurentiis.
LOVE. LOVE, her show. Sunday afternoon’s, lazing in bed, watching Everyday Italian. Nice. Giada’s website has great recipe’s and menu suggestions like. Farmer’s Market Supper
Anytime Vegetable Salad
Capellini Piedmontese
Roasted Peaches Drizzled with Balsamic SyrupUnfortunately I didn’t find as complete of a recipe source as I would have liked at her website. But there is an index *eye roll* of what book to buy in order to find the recipe. :-/ Giada remains on the top three favorite chef’s but it would be nice if the site was a little bit more complete but never fear, the Food Network has a list of some of her more popular dishes and creations. Here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/everyday-italian/recipes/index.html 3. Rachael Ray
OK. I know I’m going three-for-three on the Italian ladies cooking here but… well you can deal with it. I not only love Rachael Ray’s recipe’s I have been able to kick out some super meals on a low budget list. R.R. Show has a recipe list that is stellar. Including.
- Recipes
- Grocery Lists. A weekly grocery list detailing ingredients to find for the weekly round up of recipes.
- Cooking videos and more.
The recipe section has detailed pictures, comments from users, detailed instructions and much more. The Rachael Ray show has put together a very thorough site. I even joined their email list, twitter and Facbook page. Yes, even substituting ingredients to make meatless dishes every Rachael Ray recipe has been a total win at our house. ******** Now of course there are many other resources for food. I was just thinking of my favorite television shows. I like to draw from friends recipe’s, and magazines like the Vegetarian Times. I’m always on the hunt for new books or food ideas, I like to cook and present variety. I think I even have a few recipe’s that I’ve used my YL Essential Oils in for flavor, like Basil! I’ll go rummaging for those later but two drops of that EO in the base of a marinara or simple olive oil, garlic, tomato and parsley is stunning. Eat well. Be well! Scott K Smith

- Clive Barker. Imagining Man. Photos + Recap. (11/11/09) [View | Hide]
I had such a great night. Bert Green has one of the best galleries for a show and he’s on top of it all. I got to see Johnny and meet Clive Barker. Clive was a very loving person, kind, gracious and surrounded by friends and fans. Right where he should be. The work was intense. I felt afire when I entered. It wasn’t the erotica… it was more of the inner flame of the body of work. Eros and Atrapos. Beautiful. A light in the dark. Provocative. Bewitching. Lovely. I ended up walking out with a photo of Johnny Raymond and the catalogue. Keep sakes. And… it is always, always, always lovely to see you Johnny. Thank you for being the adorable host. I look forward to seeing you again. If you can make it out to the Downtown LA Art Walk and see the show, you should. “Imagining Man” runs from November 11th – December 19th, 2009. Bert Green Fine Art
